Searching

I was fortunate enough to spend a quality evening with one of my favorite people on Earth. We pounded the banks of my home river in search of the explosive force of a feeding striper, its the drug that makes us walk miles of river bank. Big top water plugs are my one exception to my fly fishing rule now. There is absolutely nothing greater than watching a six to nine inch rainbow trout pattern plug get mugged by an angry striper, and disappear into the cavernous depths of a bucket sized mouth.

Today was not our day, but anything worth having.....is worth working for.

Thanks for spending the day with me Dan.

Spring beginnings

Its that time of year when nature comes alive. Electrified and powerful displays are commonplace now, animals and plants are awakening from their slumbers. Just standing in the cool river with eyes surveying the landscape can reveal so many things. Caddis flies are hatching thick in the evenings, blue back steelhead are beginning to bite and execute their amazing acrobatics on the end of your fly line. American shad are entering the system, and big striped bass are chasing them both with vicious surface displays complete with their signature kissing, popping, and violent thrashing sound effects on the top of the water column. I live for the sensory overload of Spring.

Its amazing out there, and there is just no excuse for failing to enjoy it.

Slow motion

Not every course runs exactly as planned. You can dot each and every I and cross every single T, and still end up clutching your head in a bewildered state, wondering why Mother Nature has thrown you such an incredible curve ball. Inclement weather at Pyramid Lake usually dictates dazzling success in fish counts and size. But not this time. Thankfully, I had with me my secret weapon. My watermelon beetle saved the day on what would have otherwise been a trip smothered in the stench of skunk, a stench that many without the fly had walked away retching from.

I hit the road after a quick stop to talk to Rick, pick up my raffle winnings, and a new Rio T-11 line from the  go-to fly shop in the Sacramento Valley.

Dan Gomez, what a slayer.....

Danigirl is fishy too....

Thanks for looking.

Harassment

You know that you are hopelessly addicted when you will grab the two weight and cast a fly to anything that will consume it. Sitting on the couch absolutely sucks on a seventy five degree day, so I ventured out with the girlfriend and the little sissy dog for a bit of a nature hike. The mission was harassment of tiny bluegill, and a few pictures of Spring time in all of its glory along the way.

My fresh faced country girl.....gotta love it.
